A Tongan Seabird in flight.
Our Client is a retired Auckland couple who want to create their final retirement home in the warmth of Fiji, investing their boundless energy into a special creation which they are building themselves. Our design brief was for a high-quality home with a roof line like a flying wing using a simple radical mono pitch.
The resulting design is a classic quality modern Polynesian contemporary home “Villa Tavake” a Tongan sea bird. The accentuated roof form captures the spatial and physical spirit of a sea bird in flight while being sympathetic to the dynamic peninsula site located at the harbour entrance. We believe the design captures this with an easy elegance and poise that sits well on the site without over dominating.
